We had a great trip from the Pool through Baie Fine. Heather took over the helm to lead us through Fraser Bay and past the Strawberry Point Lighthouse toward Little Current. We were about 10 minutes early for the bridge so we had to hover for a while. This is the first time we saw the bridge operator come outside the booth while the bridge turned and there was only one other boat besides us that went through the bridge.
Little Current was named as a joke because the current is far from little and and the direction of the current changes, sometimes multiple times in a day! As a rule, when we dock in Little Current we always have lines and fenders ready on both sides as we need to be prepared to change plans quickly. This time the current kept grabbing us so we switched slip assignments. Later, Cam had to work very hard to help another boat that was being blown hard into the dock as they arrived with no thrusters. It's always entertaining!
This was a utilitarian stop for us. We stocked up on groceries, drug store items, docktails supplies, and we booked in some repairs with North Channel Canvas. In addition to doing the work that we requested, Allistor from North Channel Canvas, picked Cam up from the drug store to go back to the boat and then drove him to the grocery store when they were done! He and his wife did a great job making canvas seat covers for our dinghy, rebinding one of our large outdoor mats, and adding snaps to existing canvas. He offered Cam a ride the next day too. So kind!
We took the opportunity of being in Little Current to join Roy Eaton to help him with his morning Cruisers Net radio check in. Little did we know that the next day I would be calling in to the Cruisers Net to find out how to get Frodo to the vet in Mindemoya. Very generously, the crew of Nadurra, Paul and Deb Kearney, volunteered to drive us. They are pictured with Frodo below. It was a 45 minute drive each way plus the appointment, and we had a great visit in both directions. Thank you so much Paul and Deb!
We left town after the vet and anchored at Louisa Island. We ended up staying at Louisa Island for five days. It was a busy anchorage with lots of boats coming and going. We were enjoying the cell signal which helped Cam work and our friends Jeff and Christine, from our home port in Wiarton were making a huge effort to come and see us on their sail boat, Masala, so we wanted to hang around. Once they arrived, we enjoyed a coffee together on their boat, followed by an afternoon of swimming and visiting. Cam and Jeff got our hot water heater switched over to the inverter. I think Jeff actually had fun doing that and Cam was grateful for the help! Jeff also discovered that our unit that was reporting the charge on our battery was not properly synced. That means we would see reports of 100% charge when it was actually 72%, for example, so Cam was able to get them synced.
By day five, we were down to five boats in the anchorage so we all got together on shore for happy hour. That was fine by us as Frodo was loving all his beach time! One of the boats was another looper boat called Detour and they were travelling with friends from their marina. One of the pictures below is Detour, their friends' boat, and Sea Clef (in order from shore outwards). It got a little rolly in the anchorage and the winds were shifting so it was time to say farewell to our friends and move on.
We continue to be overwhelmed by the kindness of strangers and friends and boaters helping boaters!
