Before You Go...

After years of boating experience, we decided that we needed to put a checklist together for ourselves for before we get underway. It seemed that there was always something that we forgot! The most annoying one is a big red button in our tank room that turns the bow thruster on and we seem to be able to bump this and unintentionally turn it off!

Our list is likely unique to us and our boat, but it might give you a starting point if you need to do a list for your own boat. Here's our list:

  • Fill water tank (marina only)

  • Engine check - oil, coolant, transmission

  • Garbage and recycling to shore (marina only)

  • Dog to shore for washroom break

  • Route plotted and confirmed

  • Power cords and breakers (marina only)

  • Windows closed

  • Ladder stored

  • Dinghy and dinghy lines secured

  • Galley secured

  • Loose items secured

  • Fenders up (anchored only)

  • Life jackets accessible

  • Lawn chairs secured

  • Hand rail opening closed

  • Binoculars on bridge

  • Glasses and sunglasses on bridge

  • Marriage Savers on (headsets for communicating)

  • Frodo (our dog) secured

  • Anchor wash down on (anchored only)

  • Bridle snubbers removed (anchored only)

  • Boat hook on bow (anchored only)

  • Bow thruster breaker on
