After years of boating experience, we decided that we needed to put a checklist together for ourselves for before we get underway. It seemed that there was always something that we forgot! The most annoying one is a big red button in our tank room that turns the bow thruster on and we seem to be able to bump this and unintentionally turn it off!
Our list is likely unique to us and our boat, but it might give you a starting point if you need to do a list for your own boat. Here's our list:
Fill water tank (marina only)
Engine check - oil, coolant, transmission
Garbage and recycling to shore (marina only)
Dog to shore for washroom break
Route plotted and confirmed
Power cords and breakers (marina only)

Ladder stored
Dinghy and dinghy lines secured
Galley secured
Loose items secured
Fenders up (anchored only)
Life jackets accessible
Lawn chairs secured
Hand rail opening closed
Binoculars on bridge
Glasses and sunglasses on bridge
Marriage Savers on (headsets for communicating)
Frodo (our dog) secured
